i could have... (but didn't want to)

I've been holding onto this work for a while now. It's my completed half of a collaboration titled 'i could have', which was initiated by someone named Sarah, details here.

For this work i was tasked to visually interpret a short piece of writing using whichever medium i wish. I originally intended to create a short film but the final edit was eventually developed into an animated slideshow.

It stars my lil sister and was filmed at Nino Studio, (aka sister's bedroom), using homemade props and toys. Like the majority of my work, it's mainly improvised which i like as it leaves lots of room for re-interpretation. My sister is a natural clown too which at times can be frustrating but here that energy is harnessed perfectly.

Below are a few of my favourite images along with some annotations from the writing which inspired it. I hope to have a full screening of the finished piece sometime soon.

''i could have put my helmet on''

''i wish i had a better brain''

''i could have been less afraid of hell''

''i could have said sorry and i could have meant it''

the bears

The Bears is a collection of illustrations i'm currently working on. Inspired by my eternal love of B-movies, Cult religion and psychedelia, but also incorporating elements of my little sister's rambling stories.
One re-occurring theme i've noted from her tales involves the bears from Bear Mountain who go about capturing naughty children from their beds at night. The usual result is the kids are cooked and eaten but to get them there the bears use quite crafty and seductive tricks like teaching lil girls ballet or treating the boys with a ride on their spaceship.
